There are no proper nouns in Scrabble!
Proper nouns have been into play in Scrabble since 2010. According to their spokeswoman, it’d add “a new dimension” to the game.
It seems I must bring to the court’s attention that, according to the evidence, the original rules for Scrabble remain unchanged, backed up by multiple testimonies from Scrabble officials, such that proper nouns are only currently allowed in Scrabble Trickster.
All of which is irrelevant as, even by your own account, the rules for any version of Scrabble would not have changed to allow proper nouns prior to 2010, and only outside the United States of America, whereas the quote in question…
…is from 1998, over a decade before any such changes would have occurred, in a magazine which was also, at the time of this quote, physically being printed in the United States of America!
